Here are some pictures of my bike before I started much of the modifications:

Brand new- March 2004 A few modifications: a little back paint on the radiator covers and a Givi top rack and case. Stock Mirrors are gone

Back to the Future

Well, I kind of got tired of dealing with the wind blast and the constant need to clean dust out the instrument cluster, so I have returned the bike to original configuration, so to speak.  I was in search of a good flyscreen for the cluster to clean up the look and to give a little wind protection.  Then it occurred to me that I already have everything I need in the stock fairing.

Back to somewhat original look Better Angle Close-up of Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen.  Works nicely.

Frame Plugs

One day I was out for a ride with Pat and one of the frame plugs came flying out.  Pat alerted me and I recovered it.  By the time I got home, both plugs were gone.  Devilsyam in the UK sells these real nice billet frame plugs for about half of the cost of the cheap OEM version.  He also makes these nice oil fill caps.

Touring Mods

In March 2008, I was presented with the opportunity to get some nice SW Motech top and side racks and a full set of luggage for an extremely reasonable price.  I had been wanting SW Motech racks for a long time because of their versatility and I like the sleeker look compared to Givi mounts.  So I went for it.  Replacing the mounts was simple, easy and quick.

In "full touring mode" A different angle No wider than barend mirrors From the back

So here's the cool part:  I can go from full touring mode to sport mode in less than two minutes.  Goes from sport mode to full touring mode in 3 minutes, 39 seconds.

From full touring mode to this: 23 seconds From full touring mode to this: 1 min 51 sec Sporty! Oh so sporty! Sexy beast

One concern I has was rear turn signal visibility.  From not much of an angle, my small rear signals were blocked by the side racks.  Solution:  mount additional signals on the racks.  I just happened to have my stock rear signals sitting around gathering dust.  I spliced some SAE plugs into the rear wiring harness so I can unplug them when the racks are not in use.

A better view of the turn signals Closeup of the signal.

I made a gasket from 1/4" neoprene and the signal bolts through an existing Givi mount hole in the rack.  Wire leads are zip-tied to the rack for stability.

Here you can see the SAE plugs for the signals.  I run them out from the top rear of the seat so they do not get pinched when a passenger is sitting on the seat.

Just for comparison purposes, here's the SW Motech and Givi back to back to see the differences.  The Givi rack sits on the tail like a wart.  Without anything but the mount on, it looks much cleaner and low profile.

Old versus new- you decide which looks better.

Naked Bike?

Update!  I flipped the headlight brackets and fabbed a new headlight adjuster bracket.  Thanks to FUP from the FZ1OA Forum for the advice and the spacers for the fork tube mounts!

Check out the new spacers on the fork tubes! Horn isn't in the way anymore Much better fit this way Horn is now positioned on the left side mounted to the old fairing bracket My home made headlight adjuster bracket

Here are some pictures of my headlight modifications before I installed the light:

Fairing removed Fairing off Ready to get startedi

Then I had to get busy with wiring and fabricating a bracket for the gauges.  Pat welded the bracket up for me the next day.

Building the bracket Bracket edgewise I bolted the bracket to the triple clamp bolts With gauges mounted

Finally, I put the whole thing together

But last night's work wasn't good enough so I made it better

Here's the bike in the sun all cleaned up- January 2005

I'm thinking about painting it black.  Here's what it would look like
